Friday, 6th February 2026 (Suva, Fiji): The Grand Pacific Hotel Suva illuminated its landmark façade in orange and blue on Wednesday, 4 February, marking World Cancer Day and joining a global landmark lighting initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control.
The lighting formed part of World Cancer Day observances held annually on 4 February, uniting communities worldwide in raising awareness of cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and care. The Grand Pacific Hotel Suva first participated in the landmark lighting initiative in 2022 and has continued its involvement each year as a visible show of solidarity with those affected by cancer.
By lighting one of South Pacific’s most recognisable heritage buildings in the official World Cancer Day colours, the event highlighted Fiji’s participation in a global movement that spans hundreds of landmarks across cities and countries.
The landmark lighting was held in partnership with the Fiji Cancer Society and supported by the Grand Pacific Hotel Suva, which hosted the event and provided venue support and light refreshments for invited guests, community representatives, and media.
Alongside the landmark lighting, the FNPF-owned IHG Hotels in Fiji extended their support through Cup of Kindness, a monthly community initiative delivered across InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel Suva, and Holiday Inn Suva.
Under the initiative, 100 percent of proceeds from nominated coffee sales are donated to local organisations and causes providing direct community benefit. In January 2026, Cup of Kindness supported the Fiji Cancer Society during Cervical Cancer Prevention Week, held from 19 to 26 January, with a dedicated coffee sale on Friday, 23 January. A second Cup of Kindness coffee sale will be held today, on Friday, 6 February, following World Cancer Day.
“Landmark lighting provides a powerful way to make cancer awareness visible within our community. Through initiatives like this and Cup of Kindness, we are able to support the Fiji Cancer Society while engaging our guests and teams in causes that matter.” commented Doreen Huon, Cluster Director of Sales & Marketing, IHG Hotels & Resorts.
Together, the two Cup of Kindness events are expected to raise approximately $5,000 in support of the Fiji Cancer Society’s education, awareness, and patient support programmes across Fiji.
“By supporting World Cancer Day through landmark lighting and practical fundraising initiatives, we are able to stand alongside organisations delivering essential health services and awareness programmes,” comments Lachlan Walker, Regional General Manager, Fiji and Pacific, IHG Hotels & Resorts. “Our hotels are owned by the people of Fiji through the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF), and that ownership carries a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the communities we serve.”
The activities align with IHG’s responsible business framework, Journey to Tomorrow, which focuses on improving lives in the communities where the company operates.
Belinda Chan, Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Cancer Society, welcomed the continued partnership and its impact.
“Being part of a global initiative such as World Cancer Day helps keep cancer awareness visible at both a national and international level,” Ms. Chan said. “Support from partners like the FNPF-owned IHG Hotels in Fiji enables us to strengthen education efforts, promote early detection, and provide ongoing support to individuals and families affected by cancer.”
World Cancer Day is led by the Union for International Cancer Control and is marked annually by organisations, governments, and communities around the world through awareness campaigns, advocacy, and landmark lighting events.
