A Grande Dame of the Pacific Gets a Facelift

It was a forlorn sight, an untenanted, two-­storeyed stone building on the Suva waterfront, standing in unsplendid ­isolation opposite Albert Park. The Grand Pacific Hotel, which opened in 1914, was certainly in the Pacific but it was now anything but grand. Empty and derelict for 25 years, it made a depressing sight.
